Can someone help me with the information about ballet, please?
I am a writer from Indonesia and right now i'm in the middle of a script about ballerina. I really need help with some information about ballet in French. I know the ballet company and where they usually perform. What i need to know is how an abroad student can join the ballet school? Do they need to reach some levels? or taking another ballet course? And how are the procedures to join the ballet company? What are the requirements for the selection? please help me with those... please... thanks a lot.

It would depend upon the ballet academy. If you are talking about the Paris Opera Ballet, they only take students over 13 (no matter where they have trained) if they have already won international ballet competitions in places like Varna (Bulgaria) or Saint Petersburg, Russia. Dancers start training when they are very young. Ideally age 7 or 8. Most ballet academies will not take an untrained dancer over the age 10 or 11. They look at your body to see if you have the facility for ballet. You must have the bone structure that only 2% of the population has, to be able to study at a top ballet academy. Many companies will accept dancers from abroad and have screenings and auditions depending on the level, held outside of their country. Sometimes a video audition is what may be required. For POB that is not an option if you did not go there from age 7-11. As I said, they accept no older outside students. If this is another company, most likely you can audition for their school up to about age 15 but would have to be almost company ready at that age. Requirements for selection to study would be facility, body and musicality. You would need high arch feet with a high instep (top bump), Long stretchy achilles tendons, 90 degrees of turnout form each hip coming from the hip rotators. Long legs, arms and neck. Slightly hyper extended knees. Short torso and a small round head. No or minimal curves to you body. You would need natural facility for ballet which means a natural flexibility and mobility in the joints and have the muscle to be able to engage it. After training and getting your academics at your ballet academy, at around age 16 a few dancers are invited to apprentice with the company. This is if you are training in a ballet academy that is a feeder school to a professional ballet company. That is how it is usually done. Then about 6 months later, some of the apprentices are given a contract and asked to join the ballet company as corps de ballet. The other dancers in their class who were not asked to apprentice, will audition for other ballet companies. Usually they end up in lesser companies or cannot find work at all. There are so few jobs and many well trained dancers. You should know that the term "ballerina" is the title given to the one top female dancer in a ballet company. Often that title is not given to any dancer. A professional ballet dancer would be called just that. A ballet dancer. Or they might be called by their rank of Corps de ballet, Soloist, Principal etc. If you company is in france, they also have the title of Etoile.

It depends on the transfer procedures/programs of the school in question. Are you talking about the Paris Opera Ballet? You need to check with the company in question, and even then there is a lot more complexity (politics) that go into the admission into a ballet company.
