Why does Sumo athlete show less emotion expression than people who play smack down or soccer player?
I'm a collage student in Psychology Department of University of Indonesia. I want to learn more about the relationship between cognition and emotion. This question will be discuss in my Cognitive Psychology Class next week.

Well they are, you just can't tell. You see the muscles in their face are contorted in emotion but the LARGE outer fatty layer does not move....

I believe it has more to do with the Japanese culture than the sport itself. Japanese culture generally frowns upon boasting and most types of intimidation that say boxers and rugby players use around the world on each other. Even Sumo athletes in other countries keep a lot of the traditions sacred to the sport.
