What do you think Indonesia's education in general?

What do you think Indonesia's education in general?
Facts about education in Indonesia (from what I observed as an Indonesian myself): -long school hour is adored by most educators -teachers are always 'right' -free education is rare -student orientation period is a time when new students have to be verbally (and sometimes physically) abused and do tasks that has nothing to do with education -students who are major in social science(s) are described as 'not so intelligent' -students are obliged to do the National Test. Questions are made by government people. Students who didn't pass the test can't graduate from primary, junior high and senior high levels and must repeat another year no matter how good are you at school. The period of the test is less than a week (three days for primary and junior high levels) -Students' effort are almost never appreciated, no matter how hard you try -Students are expected to adapt themselves with the teachers (not the other way around) I only want non-Indonesians to answer this!

Yes there is a lot to say... While you live in Islamic states, the government enforcement officials expect that the foreigner follow and do all those done by the natives. A number people suffered in differrent places due to this cultural misunderstanding. Some had left some good jobs and went back to their own countries due to cultural clash.

I live in a multi-cultural country and the people who are both born here and immigrate here find it hard to get along with each other. During the last 3 years more rioting and marches have taken place. - Pepper.

Ah yes, cultural adjustment in a new place is a real problem, for sometime at least, anywhere in the world. Conflict can happen in not understanding little things, like negotiating traffic. For example, in USA, traffic moves on the ‘right’ side of the road, while in Europe and in many countries of Asia, they flow on the ‘left’. So people who’ve just arrived from one place to another have to consciously be aware of the rules to not fall over their own feet, so to speak, and end up wrong sided. Much larger understanding and adjustment is needed with religious norms. In the Islamic Gulf states, for example, you need to be very aware of the cultural context to not goof up through ignorance. Like during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslim people fast during the day. All restaurants/food shops remain closed, and nobody, just nobody at all is allowed to eat/drink/smoke publicly during that time. Failure to comply could lead to being arrested.

How much does a meal cost in America?

How much does a meal cost in America?
Hi, I live in Indonesia, a country in south east Asia. Our currency is IDR (Rupiahs) I looked it up, that more or less, 1 USD =8.000 Rupiah As a college student, we can have a great meal at just 15.000 IDR here... I know the answers might vary, but I'd love to hear anyway.

Double Cheeseburger combo from McD's = $3.50 other meals = at least $5-6 Expect at least 15 and up in a "restaurant" like Olive Garden, Red Lobster and stuff like that but you won't be frequenting there as a college student Also check for student meal plans at your college, their prices should be competitive and affordable for some... though some can be overly expensive.

What part of America are you curious about? In most of the word there are low-income communities, middle class areas, and the very, very ritzy spots (like Beverly Hills). Meal prices vary according to the type of restaurant (fast food, family-style, or high end fancy restaurants) and the communities they're located in. In a middle class neighborhood at a family-style restaurant, I would think a dinner would cost about $10.00 (then you still have to add drinks, tax, and tip). That's about 88,550 IDR. A fast food meal in a middle class neighborhood might be about half that.

It depends on the part of America you go to and where you eat, at a restaurant. New York City $10 - $40 (80.000 - 320.000 IDR). Dallas $6 - $30 (48.000 - 240.000 IDR). Making your food to eat at home $3 - $10 (24.000 - 80.000 IDR).

It depends on what you are eating. When I was a college student, I managed to have many meals for less than $1. Pre-packaged Ramen Noodle soup is a staple of many college students, and you can get that for about $0.25 per serving. Add an apple (about $0.50), and you have a filling, though unspectacular, meal. I don't know the exact numbers, but I would imagine that the normal meals that I prepare at home now are about $4.00 each. But if I eat in a restaurant, I can spend anywhere from about $10 to $30 on a meal. High priced restaurants can cost in the hundreds of dollars, but I certainly don't go to those places!
